So I bought a copy of Crying Out Love in The Center of the world off ebay to send to Sterl & A, and I lent one of my copies to Kat & R. They’re all somewhere in the middle of the series now, and I’m glad because a few tears have already been shed along the way. Not that I want to make my friends cry of course, but this kind of weeping in front of the tv is pretty sweet and funny at the same time. I watched it all alone so I can’t even imagine watching it with someone else in the room, seeing me bubbling up and getting the inside of my glasses all flecked with tears. I tell ya, this drama is so chock full of poignant lines and scenes, it leaves you with images that stick in your mind and can get you choked up at will. I’m glad I now have a few more people to chat about it with. It sure wasn’t easy having watched this unknown gem and not have anybody around me who had shared the experience and would know what the hell I was talking about. When I first received the discs from Harriet I didn’t get around to watching it for about a week. After I finally started (and watched 6 episodes straight) I wrote an email to thank her and she told me that she had just been telling someone else “I wonder if he started watching it yet… If not, Aki deserves better than that”. 🙂 I certainly understand. Without a doubt the most deeply impactful work of drama of any sort that I have ever seen.
In other egomaniacal news, my old roommate Mat called me the other night to tell me he saw me on tv! Well, my name anyway… The Travel Channel has been re-airing their special “World’s Best Places To Pig Out”. During the segment featuring the Acme Oyster House’s oyster eating contest, the camera scans over the Wall of Fame, and right there smack dab in the middle, the most prominent name (because of my nickname) was yours truly. They show it twice during the segment. Pretty sweet. For those of you who have nothing better to do, they are re-airing it this Saturday at 7pm. Woo hoo, I’m famous! Next time ya see me, holla like ya know me 😛
