Decided on the spur of the moment to go to Atlantic City yesterday with Twoin. He figured he needed to try to win back some of the money his wife J just spent on a new Cartier Roadster watch (with a pink dial and steel bracelet for you fellow watch junkies out there). We got down to The Borgata at around 2p and grabbed lunch at the Metropolitan again. Every time we go to The Borgata we take a walk over to the Asian noodle bar place because the one time I ate there, the noodle soup was actually surprisingly good. But every time we walk past it, there’s always a line a mile long so we typically end up going back to the decent but boring Metropolitan. This time I just had the crab cakes entree and Twoin had a cheeseburger. The lemony remoulade made the otherwise mediocre crab cakes taste pretty good. The rice pilaf and overcooked veggies they came with I could have done without. Twoin didn’t comment on the cheeseburger other than it was overcooked for his taste, but hey, a cheeseburger is a cheeseburger. Twoin covered the meal with the points from his players card and off we went to hit the blackjack tables.
We settled into a table that had just opened up, so we had to sit there while the dealer hand shuffled 12 decks before feeding the two 6-deck stacks into the automatic shuffling machine. That whole process took about 15 minutes and by then it was time for the dealer’s break. When we finally started play, I ended up down almost immediately, but after a pretty choppy shoe, I ended back to even. That was the last time I would be at even for about 7 hours. Somewhere along the way I ended up losing about 3 grand, bought in for my one thousand more (4k was going to be my limit for the day), and proceeded to mount a spectacular comeback. I finally got back to even and was actually up about $500 at one point but then the tides turned as they always do. Before I knew it, I was back down $2400 when Twoin asked if it was almost time to leave. Twoin drove and we didn’t want to leave too late (it was already about 1:30am or so). So I told him to give me 20 minutes and I would either be even or busted out. This time I busted out. Oh well. One other downer was that the bloody mary’s were terrible this time around. Last time we were there they were so rich and concentrated, but this time they were watery. At least the waitress was cool enough to get me the extra olives I wanted, one time bringing my drink with 4 skewers of them. Good thing too, since that would essentially be my dinner for the day!
Anyway, we may head back there in a few weeks because one of my favorite comedians, Russell Peters, is playing there. He’s one funny bastard. He’s Indian (dot not feathers) and has terrific material including a couple of bits where he does absolutely killer Italian and Chinese accents. Would be very cool to see him live. In any event, tonight is the Super Bowl. I have no bets on the game but if I were to wager, I’d probably take Seattle. No love for The Bus; I don’t think he’s got what it takes to come through in the big game even if it is potentially the last of his career. If Seattle can neutralize Hines Ward, then Pittsburgh is probably gonna fall way behind. But I really don’t care too much about the game either way. We’ll be playing poker and drinkin’ wine at R&L’s place with the game just on in the background, so I’m sure we’ll actually be paying more attention to the commercials than the football.
