Damn Cold (It is and I’ve got one)

It is so cold and windy out today and I’ve been trying to fight off a cold all weekend that finally beat me down and tapped me out yesterday. The only good thing about this weather is that it makes me perfectly happy to work longer hours which is something I desperately need to do right now with some important deadlines bearing down on me. But I could only work so late tonite since it’s Monday and that means 24 is on. Yes I know I’m a loser for being so addicted to a show that I actually spend my day looking forward to it. I especially put great consideration into what I will have for dinner while watching it. This week I felt like eating a bit lighter, so I decided to do some raw fish. But since Hajime is closed on Monday, I have to fly solo tonite. I rarely cook for myself at home because I hate doing dishes, but for the sake of my enhanced viewing pleasure, I decided to stop by the Japanese market to pick up a few things and make myself a little somethin somethin tonight. Here’s what I made:

Yellowtail and Striped Bass SashimiMaguro Tartare

The first dish is a little sashimi- Yellowtail and Striped Bass with shiso, seasoned with just salt, pepper, extra virgin olive oil and lemon juice. If it were up to me, sashimi portions would always be this generous!

The second dish is a Bluefin Tuna Tartare also with shiso to which I tossed in the scraps from the edge of the Striped Bass which didn’t make for meaty enough slices to be sashimi. See how thrifty I can be with the shiso and the fish scraps? 😀 The tartare is seasoned with salt, pepper, chili oil, and toasted sesame oil. And no, I wasn’t cutting corners in using maguro tuna instead of toro; I did it on purpose because like I said, I was in the mood for some lighter fare tonite. That’s also the reason I went so generous with the lemon juice on the sashimi. It’s just what I’m craving. Anyway, now it’s just chillin’ in the fridge for the next half hour until 24 starts. Damn I can’t wait, both for the show and to eat!!!
