Forgot to mention a couple weeks ago I made another crazy purchase. Bought a Fender Mexican Telecaster and a Roland Cube 30. Just been playing around with it in my spare time. My fingers get tired pretty quickly, so this is gonna take some time to learn, but that’s ok. I’m definitely not trying to fast track this hobby; it’s more of just something to keep the other half of my brain a little more occupied than usual. In other news, WLIW Create continues to be a pretty awesome station, although they recently dropped one of the best cooking shows I’ve seen, The Kitchens of Biro, and replaced it with an absolutely terrible show called Christina Cooks. The Kitchens of Biro featured Marcel Biro, apparently a very talented chef who for some reason decided to open his restaurant in Sheboygan Wisconsin. The show typically had him preparing two dishes in his demonstration kitchen which would become featured menu items at service later. In between segments he’d provide little quick cooking tips which are exactly the kinds of things I watch cooking shows for. Then they include a segment in his restaurant kitchen, showing his staff as they prepare for service (making the dishes he just demonstrated), and his wife who runs the front of the house. A very good format for a show, and Biro’s food looks outstanding. Which again makes me wonder why somebody who can cook like that would have chosen Sheboygan. Then you have Christina Cooks which is a health food cooking show hosted by exactly the sort of odd crunchy hippie type you’d expect to be hosting a show like that. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, her show “features” this even more wacko looking guy who has thinning hair and looks like he still lives with his mother, and his job is to play his acoustic guitar and sings cheesy songs while she cooks. Then he tastes her cooking and pretends to like it. Yuck! Bring back that New Scandanavian Cuisine show with Andreas Viestad. He was weird too, always using bizarro ingredients we’d never have stateside like cloudberries and lingonberries, but at least he seems goofy and likeable, unlike Christina and Guitar Guy who are just plain creepy. At least Jacques Pepin’s show is still on. And then Ask This Old House too. Much better than the regular This Old House show you grew up watching, which was always week long projects. Ask This Old House is just quick bits answering viewer questions. Again, I think I’m just a big fan of anything where I can learn quick little tips.
