Played the $500 + 65 at the NEPC at Foxwoods this morning and didn’t even make it through the first level. Was a great structure too, 50 minute levels, so I had high hopes for this one. Everyone started with 1500 in chips and blinds at 25-50. I bled off a third of my chips in blinds and on two hands- QQ, AQ both of which I had raised to 150 preflop only to have to fold when the board came K high with reraising before I got to act. I had 975 in chips when I looked down at AA in middle position. One limper came in ahead of me, I raised to 150, got one caller behind me and a call from the limper. Board came a horrible 9JQ rainbow. A check to me, and even though I hated the flop, I had to bet just in case somebody was drawing to a straight. I bet 300, the late position guy folded, and the other guy re-raises me all-in. I run thru the possibiities. KT, KQ, JQ look most likely so I felt like I was probably beat. But getting 3-to-1 on my money and knowing I only had 525 in chips with blinds about to go up anyway, I finally called after a very long deliberation. He turns over 8Ts and I’m toast. As an exclamation point, he catches runner runner for a flush. If this had been the wsop, I think I lay that hand down. But here at a $500 buy-in, I felt the rockets were worth going to bat with being that pot commited and with the alternative being so short stacked and likely to get bled down before being able to double back. Oh well, it was a trap hand for sure, and I jumped right into it.
