So I’ve been watching quite the odd range of TV shows lately. As far as regular TV goes, I got into 24 this season and it is consistently good. Also really like House M.D. I think mainly because I really identify with the Dr. House character. If you’re smart and you have absolute certainty about what’s right and wrong, both morally and technically, then you can be harshly sarcastic and it’s ok. Oh and another big premise of the show is that patients usually lie, which is also something I can relate to; ignore what people tell you and just stick with the facts you can verify on your own! I think it’s a decent drama, but basically I just enjoy watching House be a jerk towards people but justifiably.
Sunday nights I’ve been watching Deadwood which so far hasn’t been as good as season 1, but then again I felt season 1 started slowly too. After that, I watch a Japanese dorama called Sakura. I have no idea why I’m into that except for the main actress, Takano Shiho, being really cute. But the show itself doesn’t have much tension in the plot and for the most part is horribly over-acted. Yet somehow it’s a very quaint and cute show so I like tuning into it whenever I can. There’s something really pleasant about a show where the main problem in the heroine’s life is the closing of her favorite restaurant!
Also on Mondays on Spike TV, I watch The Ultimate Fighter, the UFC’s version of The Contender. It’s cool that MMA has finally got a show on weekly tv, but some of the fighters really don’t shed a good light on the sport. But hey, I guess that’s reality tv for ya. It is cool to see how Randy Couture and Chuck Lidell train these guys though. Overall, not a great show, but being an MMA fan, we’ll eat up whatever we can get.
And finally, I also caught Brad Paisley’s Muddy Gras special on CMT. Loved it because it combined two of the things I love most, country music and New Orleans. Brad played a set with the Preservation Hall Jazz band and held his own. Seeing that guy play guitar the way he does is nothing short of inspirational. The boy can flat out play. They also showed him having crawfish on the bayou and then grabbing a bite to eat at Mother’s. Man do I miss NOLA. Especially the food, but pretty much everything about that city. Maybe I’ll make a quick weekend trip out there for a meal at Acme Oyster. Hrmmm…
